Community and Elders Program

The Perfect Corporate Social Responsibility Partnership

and

The Perfect Service Project for Community Organizations

Sixty percent (60%) of nursing home elders, nationwide, receive NO personal visitors.  Corporations and community organizations benefit from the special bond that is created among the individual participants, as they share a life-enhancing experience and see the immediate positive impact their service has provided the nursing home or assisted living elders.  This is a volunteer opportunity to experience  “hands-on service.” Volunteers receive education and training that enable them to have comfortable, meaningful interaction with elders of all cognitive functioning levels, including those in advanced Alzheimer’s Disease. “Happiness is based upon close relationships and reciprocity.” (The Happiness Hypothesis, Jonathan Haidt) — Bessie’s Hope youth and adult volunteers quickly learn that the nursing home elders, isolated from and by our society, have so much to offer younger generations.  Your employees or fellow employees, or your fellow organization members have the opportunity to give joy, attention, acknowledgement, respect and HUGS to these elders, while the elders have the opportunity to share their wonderful stories based upon their knowledge and wisdom gained from life experiences. Our culture teaches us at a very young age that “the older a person becomes, the less they become.”  Thus, ageism toward older people runs rampant in all areas of our society, and elders are relegated to a place of having no purpose.  Help Bessie’s Hope return honor and respect back to the wisdom keepers, our elders. See below for “HOW IT WORKS” SURVEYS ABOUT CORPORATE INVOLVEMENT: According to a survey of 2500 corporate executives by the (national) Points of Light Foundation:
  • Increase employee productivity by more than 70%

  • Build teamwork skills by more than 90%
A Denver Foundation survey found that 95 percent of metro Denver residents said that businesses should be active in supporting charitable causes. A national Roper poll found:
  • 94 percent of influential Americans held a more positive image of companies that support community causes.
  • 68 percent of influential Americans said they would be more likely to buy a product associated with a good cause.
  • When employees are encouraged to volunteer in the community, it contributes positively to employee pride, loyalty, morale, and retention.
  • 90 percent of workers whose companies support a cause felt proud of their company’s values vs 56 percent of those whose companies are not committed to a cause.

HOW IT WORKS

Whether a one-time community service visit or an ongoing project with ongoing visits, Bessie’s Hope provides an educational and training orientation for the volunteers and facilitates the group interaction with elders at a conveniently located nursing home or assisted living facility.  You choose the day or night and the time frame for your group’s visit. Bessie’s Hope coordinates with the home (or homes) and facilitates the interaction.  Just bring smiles and hugs and be ready to fill your heart.  While bringing joy and giving time to these often forgotten elders, employees and group members share a heart-warming experience that builds team spirit that goes back to the workplace and to volunteers’ homes. If the team members are interested, we also provide the opportunity for families or individuals to “adopt” nursing home elders who have no one. If the team chooses, you can commit to ongoing visits, whether it is once a month, every other month or once a quarter. Click here to fill out an application   Contact Bessie’s Hope.
